The Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV)asked media personalities who will support any candidate for the coming election, to resign or to take a leave to avoid using their time and space in any media form for campaigning.
Commission on Elections (Comelec) had already given their sanction in the said issue and agreed upon that media employees, including celebrity endorsers, to take a leave during the whole campaign period.
The said action is to comply with the Republic Act 9006 or the Fair Election Act Sec. 6.6 stating that; “Any mass media columnist, commentator, announcer, reporter, on-air correspondent or personality who is a candidate for any elective public office or is a campaign volunteer for or employed or retained in any capacity by any candidate or political party shall be deemed resigned, if so required by their employer, or shall take a leave of absence from his/her work as such during the campaign period.”
GMA7 already advised their talents to go on leave if they’ll continue endorsing any candidate, while ABS-CBN chose to defend that their talents need not to leave because they already set rules that stars can not mention their candidates and use their programs and numbers to endorse anybody.
Some of the endorsers are Kris Aquino, Boy Abunda and his talents, etc., for Aquino while Dolphy, Revillame and Geronimo for Villar. Estrada has Lorna Tolentino, Teodoro with Rivermaya while Villanueva has Gloc 9 and the Valenciano family.
Continuation of the above provision: “Provided, That any media practitioner who is an official of a political party or a member of the campaign staff of a candidate or political party shall not use his/her time or space to favor any candidate or political party.”
Celebrities are excused to take a leave as long as they know the right places and time to endorse their bets.
